Prof. Dr. Hakan Gündüz is Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Marmara University School of Medicine and Division of Pain Medicine. He is the founder and director of the Marmara University Pain Medicine Program and has played a pivotal role in advancing interventional pain medicine training in Türkiye.
He is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to the diagnosis and interventional management of coccygodynia. Prof. Gündüz has been at the forefront of refining image-guided sacrococcygeal procedures—particularly the transsacrococcygeal ganglion impar block—helping to establish precision-based, outcome-oriented standards in chronic coccyx pain management.
His scientific work includes influential publications on chronic coccygodynia, procedural accuracy, and predictors of treatment success.
Through academic leadership, clinical innovation, and dedication to training future pain specialists, Prof. Gündüz continues to contribute to the global advancement of minimally invasive coccyx pain therapies.
Prof. Dr. Gündüz has authored over 130 scientific publications in SCI and SCI-Expanded, along with many book chapters and international conference presentations.
He has also held major administrative roles, including Head of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Section of Pain Medicine (2012-2021), Dean of Marmara University Medical School (2017-2021), Chief Physician of Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital (2021-2025), and Member of the Turkish Medical Specialty Board-TUK (2022-Still), and a Member of Social Security Institution Reimbursement Pricing Commission of Türkiye (2022-Still), contributing significantly to medical education and specialist training and healthcare management.
