Jon Miles is a retired radiation physicist, living in Oxfordshire, England. He spent most of his career working at the UK National Radiological Protection Board measuring and mapping the natural radioactive gas radon, and working with epidemiologists to determine the risk from exposure to the gas.
He developed coccydynia in 1993 following an accident, but was unable to find effective treatment until he had his coccyx removed in 1999. In the same year he created the website www.coccyx.org to provide sufferers and medical personnel with accurate information about this condition. The website grew into a forum for coccydynia patients and an index of specialists treating the condition in 48 countries.
He researched the history of coccydynia and its treatment using libraries and online resources, tracing it back to the time of the Roman Empire. He has given presentations on different aspects of coccydynia and its treatment at all of the series of Symposiums on Coccyx Disorders.
