Dr. Elif Gürkan, MD, is a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She graduated from Ankara Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine in 1993 and completed her residency training between 1993 and 1999 at Ankara Rehabilitation Hospital and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Uludağ University, Bursa.
During residency, her clinical focus included musculoskeletal and rheumatic disorders, neurological rehabilitation and spine-related pain. After 1999, she pursued advanced academic training and certification programs at several international centers, including New York Long Island College Hospital, Paris Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, Cleveland Clinic (Spine Institute), and Wooridul Hospital in South Korea. In 2021, she completed a three-year interuniversity diploma (DIU) in Orthopaedic Manual Medicine at Paris–Créteil University and obtained qualification in osteopathic orthopedic medicine in France. She is also a member of SOFMMOOM (French Society of Orthopaedic Manual Medicine).
Since 2005, after working with Dr. Jean-Yves Maigne in Paris, Dr. Gürkan has developed particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of coccydynia.
Dr. Gürkan has been a speaker at four International Coccyx Symposia as well as at Turkish Spine Association and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation congresses on Coccydynia. She currently practices at TherapyArt Physical Medicine Center in Istanbul, where she manages patients with coccydynia, spine-related pain syndromes, and musculoskeletal disorders, performing ultrasound- and CT-guided pain interventions alongside manual medicine techniques.
